Mukhtar Mai says more US awards await her

MULTAN: Mukhtar Mai said on Tuesday that besides the Glamour magazine some other organisations in the US had announced awards for her.

Talking to reporters at Meerwala after returning from the US where she had gone to receive the Glamour Woman of the Year Award, Mai said, “I visited the United States to convey the message of Pakistan’s oppressed women who were being killed in the name of honour, dowry and other customs.”

She told a questioner that she had not made any statement to the US media against Pakistan and its government during her visit. “ I cannot even think of speaking against my motherland.

Replying to a question about the statement of President Pervez Musharraf that rape cases were being propagated to earn money, Mai said the president had himself denied the statement.
